Captain Finn and the Cloud Islands

Finn’s favorite place was the floating docks above his town, where sky ships bobbed on their ropes like sleepy balloons. Finn was six, and everyone there called him Captain Finn.

His ship was a small wooden raft tied with thick rope. His first mate was Nimbi, a little cloud with a curly top and wings as thin as mist.

One sunny morning, they sailed out between the clouds. Finn sat up front in his red bandana, and Nimbi floated beside him, puffing a breeze to steer.

“Look, the Rainbow Bridge!” Nimbi cheered. Far ahead, it curved from the docks to the Cloud Islands, where her family lived.

Then her curly top stood straight up. “A storm is coming,” she said. Back on the docks, Captain Brisa rang the big bell, and they turned for home.
