Chapter 1: A Squeaky Sunrise

Malik was staying at Grandpa’s farm. He got up early to hear Rufus the rooster. Every day, Rufus sang the sun awake.

The sun peeked over the hill. Rufus stretched his neck and opened his beak. Cock-a-doo... eek! That was all.

Nobody woke up. Through the window, Grandpa snored on, hrrr, pshhh. The whole farm stayed sleepy. “Rufus lost his crow,” said Malik. “I will help him find it.”
